Koninginnedag (Queen’s Day) is one of my favourite days of the year. Not because you can get all crazy, get drunk and party, but because I love the vrijmarkt (‘flea market’)! Since I was little I always used to sell my old stuff or made something I wanted to sell, but this year I decided to go hunting for some great finds myself, instead of selling them. What I like most about these ‘flea markets’ is that people get so creative on how to earn some money. People earn money with giving a massage, selling homemade food (lots of cupcakes!), giving compliments, or how about a human fruit machine? This year I went to Amsterdam, which in fact I really hate on Queen’s Day, because of all the people who come there, but if you avoid the city center, it can be really fun! I went to the area around the Apollolaan and the Sarphatipark and to give you an impression I made some pictures during the day. Allthough I had a great time in Amsterdam, next year I will visit Utrecht again, because I like the atmosphere there better. Sorry Amsterdam!
About Queen’s Day
On 30 April we celebrate the birthday of Holland’s former Queen Juliana. On this Dutch holiday most of the people like to wear orange or red/white/blue, the national colours of the Netherlands, and there are many activities like concerts and flea markets.
